Day 14
I have been m.i.a. for
about a week because I have been really busy and had a great lacking in
motivation to think about my thoughts. A
lot of really fun, exciting, interesting things just sort of ‘came up,’ and
since I am taking advantage of all opportunities which arise, I decided to go
with the flow and do every thing that presented itself! Since I’m back into the swing of working
full-time, I suppose you deserve a regular post. So begins, my rendition of the past week.
First of all, I spent about
one hour per day at the dreaded school hauling boxes back into my classroom
which sucked, but it is done now so I guess I shouldn’t complain. I caught up on a lot of reading and played
with the puppy. On Friday, I was feeling
particularly ambitious, as I woke up at 6 a.m., so I went for a run, cleaned
the house, mowed the entire lawn and was fully packed for a weekend trip to the
beach, before 2 p.m. The run was awesome
and exhilarating, cleaning felt refreshing, mowing wasn’t even that hot
(although it did take me two hours instead of the normal one-and-a-half), and
packing was fun because I was really excited for my first time at the beach in
North Carolina.
Yes, you read correctly,
I’m on year three of living in North Carolina and this is the first time I
visited the beach. Grey and I couldn’t even
think about leaving Roxboro until she got through with work (around 5:30), so
we ended up leaving a little after 6. We
took my car, and I drove, which was entertaining for several reasons a)because
Grey was with me; b)because I love my car; c)because we had not one, but two
awesome cd’s to jam with on the way; and d)because the beach is just amazing
(see photos below). We went to Topsail Beach, NC and it was absolutely
beautiful. One thing you need to
know about Topsail Beach, is that it’s pronounced in the South as “top-sul
beach,” so the whole time I thought it was Topsoil Beach. I don’t think Grey ever laughed as hard as
she did when I said “Topsoil” instead of “Top-sul,” and then she laughed
even harder when I said “OH, TopSAIL!”
I guess you would probably need to be like me and get made fun of
because you are always mocking the cutesy Southern accents, or have lived in
the South at some point in your life, in order to fully appreciate that portion
of my story.
Also on the agenda was a Reading Foundations Training
for school that all Kindergarten and First grade teachers in the county had to
attend. Normally, this professional
development wouldn’t be too big a deal, but it required us to be back to work a
day earlier than EVERY OTHER TEACHER.
The training has proven really useful and interesting however, and I am
really glad that I agreed to attend, because it earned me a four-day weekend in
November, at Veteran’s Day. Our
principal came to the morning portion of the training and sat with us
yesterday, which was a lot of fun. Our
school inherited an additional teaching position Monday, and Lucy and I thought
it would be funny for me to call her (our principal) and pretend that I was an
interested applicant. She didn’t answer
her phone, so I called our secretary, Jessica.
I could barely explain myself “Hi, I saw that you had an open position
on your website and I was curious as to whether you could tell me anything
about it?” when Jess said “MEGAN, you can’t even DO THAT! I know your voice, honey!” Of course this cracked me up, but it was
funny. So when our principal got to the
training and I asked her about the position, she responded with “Jessica TOLD
me what you did Megan.” I admitted that
I had tried to inquire with her first, but she was not available to answer the
phone, and she was like “You are so crazy!”
Bahaha. The smallest things
entertain me! Then, knowing that I make
jewelry for fun, she pulls out a massive pile of strung beads in various shades
of purple and says “What can you do with this?”
Needless to say, I am making her a few bracelet/earrings sets. So, later in the training yesterday I
received a text from my friend Jennifer, who had four free tickets to a Maroon 5 concert in Raleigh!!!
Of course I agreed to go, I mean, like I said before – who’s budget
doesn’t support FREE?!? It was an
awesome time, Kris Allen
opened and Maroon 5 was fantastic
(pics/videos to come later)!
The Welcome Back Meeting
was today, and it lasted all day, but wasn’t that bad either. Again, I was harassed by our principal, which
I have grown quite accustomed to. It’s
like I set myself up for this shit.
Seriously, every time there is complete silence in the room and everyone
is focused and listening, she cracks some random joke about me or has some
wise-ass comment. I know that you are
fully aware that I do the absolute same thing, so today when she requested to
our staff “Don’t be telling her (our new art teacher) any crazy things about
me!” I responded with “Why not?!? YOU tell everyone crazy things
about me!” and then she says “I tell everyone the truth about you
Megan.” And then our whole faculty
cracks up laughing. Luckily, most of my
co-workers can appreciate my silly, care-free, extroverted personality, and our
Media Specialist stuck up for me by saying “Don’t worry Meg, we love you,” but
then, more laughter! I don’t know
if I can trust these people! Ha, I’m
only kidding. We do all have a lot of
fun together – or at least I do!
Last for tonight, is this
funny conversation that I just had with Danny just now. He calls my phone…at 10 p.m. on a school
night, to guilt me into coming camping in the mountains with himself,
Vanessa and V’s brother Justin this weekend.
Specifically, coming camping at Linville
Gorge, NC which is pretty spectacular looking. I had originally planned on attending these
festivities, but I am really stressed out that I will not be able to finish my
classroom this week (as required), since I have only spent 2 hours in said
classroom. I know that I will not have
much time in it next week, because we have a lot of grade-level housekeeping
and paperwork to get through by Tuesday, and Wednesday is the first day of
school. So I had sent Vanessa a text
earlier telling her that I may not be able to come, and then Danny calls me and
in his goofy D & V way (only some of my readers will understand this), he
majorly attempts to get me to come along.
Things included in his begging are as follows: a) “Please Megan, just do
this for us, it would make it so much more fun for everyone if you just came.”;
b) “Come on Megan, I have just endured something I will not even do for a good
friend, only a great friend, and that’s talk on the phone for eight
minutes and thirty-six seconds.”; c) “Please Megan, you can get everything
done. You just can’t be yourself and
talk at all tomorrow and Friday so that you can finish. I know you can do it. Just say you’ll come.”; d) “Okay Megan, just
say that you’ll come because well, do you want to try and make it to twelve
minutes, because we just passed eleven?”
I truly do want to go, so I told them that I will text at 6 p.m. tomorrow
as to whether or not I can. I hope so,
because camping in the mountains is another thing on my list that I haven’t
done and really, really want to do.
Alright - ya’ll come back now - ya hear? Peace.
<3 Meg

And here is my very short, edited photo compilation (I will post more pictures on facebook soon):
Mesmerizing sunrise on August 14th (1)
Isn't this the most stunning thing you've ever seen?
This was the most awesome, humongous PINK house (complete with it's own water-slide and light house) that I have EVER SEEN!!!
This is the sunset on August 14th. We were riding on the boat.
And here is me, burnt to a crisp and red as a lobster. A wine-drinking, fighting lobster at that.
I don't know how I missed this post! Anyway, I just read it and decided that you need to write more often!! If they're more frequent they can be shorter and dont' take too long to write. I neeeed to hear about your life all the time so too much doesn't happen in the gaps. OK???
Anyway - I love your beach photos!! Gorgeous!!! The shell one is my favorite but the PINK HOUSE is my favorite THING to ever exist! Can we live there together some day?? We shall call it...Meganopolis.
I love you oh so very much!!!!!
