For
some strange reason unbeknownst to me, after drinking a bottle and a half of
wine, I woke up this morning at 5 am, without an alarm, raring to go, full of
energy and excited to see a sunrise on the lovely Mayo Lake, here in Roxboro. As I am getting dressed, I keep thinking,
‘this is going to be so fantastic, just Atlas and I get to see a sunrise in the
south!’ and then I open the front door. And
the outside is full of rain and clouds.
No sun at all. So I come back
into the house and check the weather online…which states that there is 100%
chance of rain at 7am…damn it.
Now,
only one of my blog readers has actually been to Roxboro, so only he can
understand that getting to see the sunrise in this little town can not even
compare to seeing the sunrise on any of the Great Lakes, which I have done
several times in my life, but nonetheless, I am disappointed that I got up this
early and ended up blogging about my misfortune.
But
wait! I have an idea which involves the
rain and my camera. As I head outside, I
have high hopes. The pure beauty of the
rain has overcome me and I begin snapping as many pictures as I can. I have never fully taken advantage of a
morning mist, and I suppose now I can cross that off the bucket list. I found so many treasures amidst the rain in
my small country yard. See for
yourself, here are my favorites.
Look at that GRASS! The coloring was amazing.
A Little Leaf fallen from the tree above. This is in my front yard. Unfortunately the grass here is a bit burned, so not as vibrant as the first picture.
These are some weeds that are growing out of my front walkway. Fortunately my lack of being home for the last month made for a fantastic photo. I love how the water sparkles off the green like magic fairy dust.
Not the best picture ever, but Joan (neighbor/landlord) has a pear tree and I have access to unlimited pears. I haven't picked any yet, but the picture-taking was fun!
I absolutely love the crisp red color of this crab apple. We used to have a tree like this in our backyard at home in Michigan. This picture just takes me back to my roots and makes me smile.
And last, the grape vine that grows in between our two yards. It's actually more in my yard than anything, but I just recently realized it was there, because Joan and Mama Rene (Grandma) pruned it and cleaned it out earlier in July.

I
am now listening to an iTunes playlist – and jamming out in my jammies. Oh, and by the way, I figured out the only
solution to the orange juice situation!
Drink it for breakfast when you wake up!
I mean, what a better way to get re-hydrated than orange juice? It’s super healthy and tastes awesome in the
morning. *Disclaimer: thank you to those
who contributed to the fullness of my refrigerator during the last month. I appreciate all of the food and today
especially, I appreciate the beverage. Have
a fantastic day all. Peace.

Meg! I am REALLY excited that you're blogging - especially through typepad! You're right... it does make us feel a little closer even though that may seem a bit silly! :) I know what you mean. I got really excited when you messaged me about this new blog. I'll actually follow this one, I swear! I am SO proud of you for embracing your day like this!!! Isn't it wonderful to just go out and explore - and then to SHARE it?? I just recently watched "Into The Wild"... have you seen it? The 24 year old kid tries to live in isolation in the Alaskan wilderness. He realizes something while he's there an it shows him writing in his journal "Happiness is only real... when shared." And that's true. So even when you're "alone" in Roxboro, you should make it your adventure to share the place with us. I mean, MEG! You have a whole fruit orchard by your house!!! OMG. That is amazing!! Grapes?! I can't wait to read more... you're a wonderful writer. I find your writing so easy to absorb - maybe from all the years of reading your notes?? :) LOVE YOU. KEEP ON BLOGGING. xoxoxoxox Meg

Ha, I have you fooled! I purposely used TypePad because a) Blogger was annoying the crap out of me and b) You use TypePad and I knew you'd follow and keep up with me if I used it too. ;) Glad you enjoyed reading my nonsense. I'll post as much as I can! I had so much fun this morning taking those pictures, even if I can't afford an awesome camera. Love you too. xoxoxoxo. Give Ev a humongous kiss and a hug from me.

Hey... I found your blog via Facebook! I like the premise. Very cool. Beautiful pictures after the rain too.
(Typepad wouldn't let me post this comment through my blogger account, but here you go if you're interested: www.mycornerofthemitten.blogspot.com.)

Keri,
I am interested! Thank you for sharing. I used to use Blogger and it made me so angry, I created a TypePad account. I like it because I can link it to Facebook as well. ;) I had fun taking the pictures with my cheapo digital camera. I was actually surprised that they turned out as well as they did. Keep in touch girly!
